Description

Moravsky kras is an area that lies between North edge of the town Brno and the town Soup. Since 1956 it has been a protected landscape on the area of 92 square km.

That area ranks among the most important karst areas in Central Europe. There are over 1 000 caves in the area - 4 of them are accessible - Punkevni Jeskyne, Katerinska Jeskyne, Balcarka and Sloupsko-Sosuvske Jeskyne.

The most famous cave is Punkevni Jeskyne where the visitors can cruise in the boat on the underground river Punkva and see the bottom of Macocha Abbys. Macocha Abbys is world-wide-known and 138 m deep abbys. Katerinska Jeskyne is famous for its unique cane stalagmites and Balcarka cave is famous for rich and colourful karst decoration. In Sloupsko-Sosuvske Jeskyne can be found massive corridors and undergroud abbyses. Other attractive places for tourists are Jeskyne Pekarna, Jeskyne Blanickych Rytiru, Byci skala, Boskovice (a town with a castle) or Novy Hrad.

The most visited part of Moravsky kras - Pusty Zleb and Suchy Zleb - is closed for car transport, however, tourists can use ecological transport as a road train or funicular.
