Ceske Svycarsko, also called Cesko-Saske Svycarsko (Czech-Saxon Switzerland), is located between the German border and town Decin (approx. 20km) and approx. 40km from the administrative town of the region - Usti nad Labem.
This area ranks among the sandstone rock towns and is very popular for domestic as well as foreign visitors. Amazing natural scenery can be found there - hundreds of sandstone rocks, the biggest sandstone canyon in Europe, caves, tunnels, beautiful rock surfaces, deep forests, brooks, cosy little hotels and guest houses, castles, or chateaus. Ceske Svycarsko was declared a protected area - National Park - the 1st January 2000 and is our youngest National Park.
Pravcicka Brana - the biggest sandstone arch in Europe (height 16m, width 26m) is the most popular tourist attraction of the area. Two gorges made by the Kamenice River can be found there - Divoka Souteska (Wild Gorge) and Ticha Souteska (Quiet Gorge) can be visited on boats with the guide - accessible from the path in town Hrensko.
Other beautiful sights are Dolsky Mlyn, Belveder - observatory terrace over the Labe River canyon, Ruzovy vrch (Rose Hill), Mala Pravcicka brana, Jetrichovicka vyhlidka (Jetrichovice Lookout).
Ceske Svycarsko is also an area where many castles, chateaus, ruins or rock castles can be found - chateaus in Ceska Kamenice, Decin, Sluknov, castles Sloup and Zamecky Vrch, rock castles Brtnicky Hradek, Flaknstejn, Chribsky Hradek, Kyjovsky Hrad, Sternberk, or Vlci Hrad.
Ceske Svycarsko offers numbers of forest tourist paths, rocks for climbing, ponds for swimming, or romantic views over the beautiful countryside.
The oldest glass factory in Europe - Chribska - can be found there or old tunnels where the silver was mined.
You can visit Municipal Museum in Decin, Museum of Thaddeus Haenke in Chribska, Miners' Museum in Jiretin pod Jedlovou, Glass Museum in Kamenicky Senov, Museum of Czech Switzerland in Krasna Lipa, or one of many galleries e.g. in Decin, Jiretin, Kamenicky Senov, or Rumburk.
